Important Looking Pirates just finished the visual effects work for a new volkswagen commercial directed by Filip Tellander of St Paul. The 45 second spot features a stylistic desert racing track setting where we get to follow the meticulous tests of the new Passat GT Sport TDI.

ILP was involved at an early stage of the process and worked closely with the director in planning the effects work. It was key not to make this into an effects driven commercial but rather to let the effects work support the story and the mood. ILP did a lot of extension of fruit and cakes, digital lollipops and also enhanced many of the shots with more pieces of fruit and debris flying about to give the shots more impact.

Another big part of the work was all the clean ups, sky replacements and matte paintings to make sure the film had a solid continuity in the clean and strict style Filip was going for.
